Long-lived MLCT excited states of Manganese (I) complexes in supercritical CO2 and other matrices

Subject Area Inorganic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 495050545

Photochemistry of manganese (I) complexes with bipyrdine-like ligands will be developed by optimizing the electronic properties of the ligands and transferring them to supercritical CO2 to form long-lived MLCT excited states. For this purpose, novel nanographene ligands with very low pi orbital energies will be used. Furthermore, these complexes will be brought into solution by introducing perfluorinated side chains or anions in supercritical CO2. The synergy of both strategies should make long-lived MLCT excited states in the manganese complexes accessible. The compounds will be characterized photophysically in detail in all media including scCO2.
