Structural controls of soil hydraulic properties (A01)

Subject Area Soil Sciences
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 450058266

The hydraulic conductivity function of soils controls the partitioning of water into soil infiltration and surface runoff. However, standard models do not account for the effect of soil structure on the hydraulic conductivity at and near saturation. Our aim is, therefore, to quantify the effect of soil structural effects on hydraulic conductivity for different land-use and climate conditions based on infiltration and soil aggregation measurements across Europe. Hence, our project contributes to the central aim of this CRC by improving the representation of structure-related processes on infiltration under consideration of the anthropogenic forcing of the water cycle.
