This project seeks to advance the understanding of the determinants of spatiotemporal dynamics in landscape configuration and composition, including crops, forests, and grasslands. Considering the broad range of theories of land system change, we explore relevance of and interaction between economic trends, agricultural market dynamics, infrastructure investments, and related risks and policies at various administrative scales. In close collaboration with natural science projects we generate metrics of landscape dynamics and analyze related drivers and their interaction/interrelation using multivariate econometric methods combined with machine learning techniques.
