Lipid droplets (LDs), ubiquitous organelles for lipid storage, establish direct contact with the plasma membrane (PM), but the mechanistic basis of this interaction and its role in PM remodeling are largely unexplored. We have identified the machinery driving the acto-myosin dependent transport of LDs to polarized PM domains. We will build on these findings to uncover the molecular components and biological roles of LD-PM contact sites, and the implications of these structures for cellular adaptability.
