GSC 266: MAterialwissenschaften IN MainZ
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
Die Graduiertenschule „Materials Science in Mainz” (MAINZ) bot in den letzten 12 Jahren ein innovatives wissenschaftliches, technisches und komplementäres Ausbildungsprogramm von Promovierenden in Kombination mit exzellenter Materialforschung. MAINZ verband disjunkte Forschungsfelder, von einfachen Modellsystemen und korrelierter Materie über funktionale Polymere und Hybridstrukturen bis hin zu biologisch inspirierten Systemen. Auf dieser Grundlage konnten Forscherinnen und Forscher in MAINZ zu einer gemeinsamen Sprache finden, den interdisziplinären Wissenstransfer fördern und neue Einblicke in vielfältige Systeme gewinnen. MAINZ hat sich als eine herausragende Graduiertenschule im Bereich der Materialforschung einen Namen gemacht, mit über 220 Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden, die ihre Promotion bei MAINZ abgeschlossen haben. Unsere Promovierenden wurden von ausgesuchten exzellenten Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (JGU), der Technischen Universität Kaiserslautern (TUKL) und des Max-Planck-Instituts für Polymerforschung (MPI-P) betreut. Die Ausbildungsstrategie von MAINZ ist, ein umfassendes aber flexibles Trainingsprogramm zu bieten, das sich an den individuellen Bedürfnissen der Promovierenden ausrichtet. MAINZ kombinierte dabei die Ansätze „Training through Research“ und „Training for Life“, um eine umfassende Ausbildung für zukünftige Führungskräfte in Wissenschaft, Industrie und anderen wissenschaftsbasierten Bereichen zu bieten. MAINZ setzte dabei auf eine wissenschaftliche und technische Ausbildung in den Bereichen Synthese und Charakterisierung, Theorie und Simulation sowie in Processing und Methodenentwicklung. Durch ein anspruchsvolles Mentoring-Programm wurden die Promovierenden auf ein breites Spektrum zukünftiger Karrieren vorbereitet. Das Ausbildungsprogramm wurde durch unsere starken Verbindungen zu Industriepartnern unterstützt und umfasste eine Reihe sorgfältig ausgewählter Softskillkurse. Durch die Auseinandersetzung seiner Mitglieder mit den verschiedenen Bereichen der Materialwissenschaft und die Zusammenführung scheinbar unzusammenhängender Ideen und Konzepte hat MAINZ die Kreativität gefördert sowie neue Verbindungen von Forschungsbereichen und Partner untereinander inspiriert. Dies hat zu intensiveren Kollaborationen geführt, zu anhaltend exzellenter Forschung und zu einer umfassenden Ausbildung, die gemeinsam notwendig sind, um die wichtigsten gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen der Zukunft zu bewältigen.
