HPC-Cluster

A successor system is proposed for HPC clusters which are currently running at Regional Computing Center at Universität Hamburg (RRZ) and the computing center at Department of Physics (PHYSnet). At the time of installation of the successor system the old clusters will have been used since over seven years and will have reached their age limit. The new procurement allows to update the existing HPC infrastructure in view of new trends in research, in particular Machine Learning, where high-performance GPUs are employed, and Data-intensive Computing, which puts considerably higher demands on disk performance than conventional rotatings disks can deliver. The proposed system shall be installed in a computer room at PHYSnet. It will be operated by a team that is formed by experienced HPC staff members from RRZ and PHYSnet.
