In the 1st and 2nd funding period TP D4 concentrated on shock-driven fluid-structure interaction (FSI) within rocket nozzles. This is a critical and design limiting phenomenon with respect to the rocket nozzle perfor-mance and can be attributed to the mechanical coupling between aerodynamic loads resulting from the highly unsteady separated nozzle flow and the underlying elastic nozzle structure. The resulting complex interaction has been studied in close cooperation with TP D6 both experimentally, and numerically in terms of well-resolved and fully coupled large-eddy simulations (LES). In the 3rd funding period TP D4 focuses on thermomechanical phenomena for rocket nozzle walls, aiming at fundamentally improving current prediction capabilities for heat transfer across the nozzle cooling channels.
