high voltage climate test chamber

Subject Area Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
Term Funded in 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 502132315

The operating behavior of insulating materials also depends to a large extent on their temperature. In order to investigate insulating materials in high-voltage technology and their operating behavior, tests are also carried out at temperatures deviating from room temperature. In this application, support is requested for the replacement of a mobile climatic chamber (interior dimensions WxHxD: 2300x2500x4000 mm). It is a chamber in which temperatures in the range of -70°C to 120°C can be set. Moreover, aggregates are assigned to the chamber which can humidify or dehumidify the chamber air in order to evaluate also this parameter and its effects on the operating behavior of the insulating materials under investigation. The chamber and its thermally insulating shell, the refrigerating machines, the process cooling equipment for the refrigeration circuit, the humidifying and dehumidifying aggregates, the associated water treatment and the control technology (control cabinet) are to be set up on a craneable and movable frame, so that the chamber can be moved from a storage area of the high-voltage hall of the FGHT into the high-voltage area of the test hall in order to use the high-voltage generators located there to conduct the test voltages into the interior of the chamber via a bushing. The test object positioned in the chamber can then be exposed to the various high-voltage forms under different climatic conditions and its operating behavior can be investigated in the process. The control of the temperature and humidity characteristics is carried out via the network of programmable logic controllers already located at the FGHT, which are to be connected to the chamber control system via a fiber optic bus in order to enable joint control of the high voltage sources and the chamber for unattended continuous experiments.
