This project is focused on the preparation and study of primary phosphine oxides. These compounds were for a long time overlooked as too unstable curiosities. However, new presented approaches to studying these compounds open the door to understanding and fully developing their potential.Research objective 1 is to determine whether stable primary phosphine oxides can generally be accessible from electronically stabilized primary phosphines. The first objective aims to:• Describe the synthesis of stable primary phosphine oxides• Fully characterize these compounds• Support obtained results with DFT calculationsResearch objective 2 is to extend the understanding of the reactivity profile of primary phosphine oxides and compare it with the known properties of secondary phosphine oxides. Reactivity of the primary phosphine oxides will be studied in:• Oxidation reactions• Addition reactions• Cross-coupling reactions• Substitution reactions
