Virtual Art: World, Body and Object References in VR-Experiences (C03)
Subject Area
Art History
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 470106373
The art studies research project C03 explores the current boom in immersive virtual reality art, starting from walk-through, world-building works accessible by data-glasses. Their often spectacular aesthetics, based on individual experience, seem closer to the alteritarian VR worlds of the 1990s than to the virtual anchored in today’s lifeworlds. The subprojects therefore focus on VR installations, performances, and exhibition environments in order to investigate how object-like interfaces, specific bodily operations, and decentering empathetic interactions create transitions to the lifeworld.
