Project Details
Probing the Dynamics of Thermal Catalysis by Vibrational Modulation Excitation Spectroscopy (A08*)
Subject Area
Physical Chemistry of Solids and Surfaces, Material Characterisation
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 388390466
The new project A08(N) studies the surface and bulk properties of spinel and perovskite catalysts under reaction conditions in continuously operated flow reactors by operando diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) and Raman spectroscopy. The feed is modulated between the reaction mixture and an inert/solvent medium using specially designed dosing units. The effects of solvents and their interactions with the reactants are studied by co-feeding them at different partial pressures or concentrations, depending on the reaction being performed in the gas or liquid phase. By analyzing the phase-resolved spectroscopic data, the response of active species against the spectators will be differentiated. MCR-ALS will be also used on the transient time-resolved operando spectroscopic data to extract kinetic information.
