Project Details
Role of ETV transcription factors in atrial cardiomyopathy (B08)
Subject Area
Cardiology, Angiology
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 464424253
Atrial cardiomyopathy is a complex and heterogenous disease that occurs in context of various clinical backgrounds. The molecular circuits of atrial cardiomyopathy have not been well characterized, which also explains the lack of efficient therapies. ETV transcription factors driven gene regulation was shown for various genes as KCNK3 that are involved in atrial remodelling processes. We will dissect how ETV1-7 transcription factors are involved in the regulation of the atrial KCNK3 potassium ion channel as well as the development of atrial cardiomyopathy subtypes and how they control chamber-specific transcriptional responses. Understanding the underlying mechanisms will be important for identifying new therapeutic targets.
