Open Access Publication Costs / 2023 -2025 / Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg

Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 512881332

By submitting this proposal, the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is pursuing the goal of increasing Open Access publication activities at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. An important aspect is the permanent transformation to open and independent publication models. This should contribute to increasing the visibility, discoverability, accessibility and re-usability of the scientific output of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. The main research areas of the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, such as global change and transformation processes, energy transition and decarbonisation, health and life sciences as well as artificial intelligence and sensor technology, are highly relevant today and low-threshold access to publications in these areas should be guaranteed for all scientists, especially those in the Global South. The services already in place and the participation in transformation contracts provide a good basis and have also increased the acceptance of OA publishing among scientists. In the coming years, fundamental support for authors in OA publishing by the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is safeguarded, even with the expected increase in the volume of publications. The specific aim of the present proposal is to expand, improve and systematise this basic service. Another objective is to obtain an overall view of the university's publication activities and the associated costs in order to ensure cost transparency in the future and to be able to counteract unjustified cost increases. To this end, the existing workflows for monitoring, which were created in connection with the funding measures in 2021 and 2022, are to be further developed and, if possible, automated and standardised. It will also be examined and evaluated how the university's various systems can work together to make the workload efficient and avoid duplication. An important technical building block for this in the coming years will probably be the implementation of a CRIS at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, as all relevant information on the research volume should converge in this system.
