Project Details
High-temperature-resistant tool edge layer by applying the Tailored Forming technology to hot forging tools (T03#)
Subject Area
Primary Shaping and Reshaping Technology, Additive Manufacturing
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 252662854
Within the framework of the transfer project T03, hybrid forging tools with high-temperature and wear-resistant surfaces are being produced by means of tailored forming. By forming friction-welded semi-finished products and the associated surface enlargement, the tool surfaces are to be specifically provided with a layer of Inconel 718 and protected against wear, while at the same time minimising the use of the high-alloy material Inconel 718. Finally, the hybrid tools will be qualified in industrial series forging tests in comparison to conventional reference dies.
