True-Triaxial-Teststand

Subject Area Construction Engineering and Architecture
Term Funded in 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 517355494

The large-scale equipment application for the True Triaxial Test Stand (TTT) is submitted in connection with the approved SFB/TRR "Digital Twin Road". With this test rig, cyclic loading of specimens of different sizes in all main stress directions (tension-compressionswell and alternating loads) is to be realized to characterize the behavior of bonded road construction materials (asphalt, concrete) under load variables and frequencies from traffic and temperature that are relevant for road pavements. Hydraulic cylinders are to be used to apply loads of up to 63.5 kN with load frequencies of up to 10 Hz to cube-shaped test specimens (15*15*15 cm) as sinusoidal tension-swell, compression-swell and tension-compression-alternating loads at temperatures between - 20 and + 70 °C. The load maxima in the various load directions are to be generated with a time delay. It should be possible to measure the elastic and plastic deformations that occur in response to the loads synchronously in all directions with an accuracy of 1 micro meter. The results of the tests will be used to model the material behavior of pavements as a basis for the structural modeling of pavements in cooperation with various subprojects (TP) of the SFB/TRR with the objective of predicting the service life of pavements and optimizing the materials and the structure of pavements according to sustainability criteria.
