The central service project provides administrative services to all subprojects of the research group. These comprise the organization of lecture series, retreats and the international midterm meeting that will be held in 2012, but also the administration of travel costs, publication costs etc.A special feature of FOR 942 is the fact that the expenses for all experiments that utilize the central research service facilities of UMG are administered through the central service project. These experiments are described in the respective subprojects. Since UMG has instituted a number of successful service facilties (e.g. transcriptome analysis TAL, animal facilities ZTE, cell service facility and proteomics facility), projects of the FOR 942 have during the first funding period preferentially performed the respective experiments at these facilities. Accounting and expense allocation are administered by the Z project. Recently, Henning Urlaub (MPI-BC, Head of Research Group Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry) was appointed to a professorship at the UMG as part of the strategic alliances of the GRC (Göttingen Research Campus) funded by the Excellence Initiative. His renowned expertise in proteomic analysis and collaborations with SP 3 and SP 6 have prompted us to ask him to join our research group as a project partner within the Z project. Dr. Urlaub will not apply for additional funding (staff or consumables) beyond the costs allocated to the respective subprojects. However, based on his expertise and his contributions to the field, he will provide much-needed advice and support to the whole research group as a project partner. In addition, the staff expenses for the Gerok position have been allocated to the Z project and the speaker. In the 1st funding period, granting protected research time to young clinician scientists has been the key to the success of the respective projects and has also generated a new project. In the introduction, the achievements of Dr. Pukrop and Dr. Klemm have been described who both have been able to solely focus on research projects during their stay at FOR 942. Dr. Bleckmann was granted protected research time through research funds allocated to the Department of Haematology and Oncology. Therefore, we are asking for the provision of a Gerok position during the 2nd funding period in order to support the integration of further young clinician scientists into the FOR 942.
