Open Access Publication Funding / 2024 - 2026 / Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology Magdeburg (LIN)

Term since 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 532212224

Publishing scientific literature in "Open Access", i.e. freely accessible and without legal and technical barriers, is becoming more and more important. Scientific findings can be disseminated and reused more quickly and widely, which in turn accelerates the research process itself, since it is possible to build directly on established and reviewed findings. The Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN) is committed to Open Access and encourages its researchers to publish their scientific results in peer-reviewed international journals in line with Open Access and Open Science principles. The proportion of open access publications has grown steadily at LIN in recent years, helped by the institute's participation in the DEAL transformation contracts. With the present project, LIN aims to further advance the transformation of scientific publishing to Open Access and to achieve the greatest possible transparency with regard to the costs incurred. The central registration of publication (meta)data, which is fully ensured through the use of a current research information system, will be further developed by consistently merging publication and cost data as well as funding sources. Existing administrative structures will be adapted so that workflows for funding publications are made more efficient and standardized. By establishing a central "information budget", the financing of open access publications will be made easier for researchers and at the same time a better overview of the total costs will be achieved. Furthermore, LIN will further emphasize the importance of Open Access by establishing an Open Access information strategy and set internal quality standards by publishing publication guidelines and introducing a digital publication submission workflow.
