EXC 315: Neue Materialien und Prozesse - Hierarchische Strukturbildung für funktionale Bauteile
Zusammenfassung der Projektergebnisse
Die wissenschaftliche Vision des Exzellenzclusters EAM war es, die bestehende Lücke zwischen der Grundlagenforschung und der technischen Nutzung von Hochleistungsmaterialien für zukunftsrelevante Anwendungsgebiete zu schließen. Das wissenschaftliche Konzept des EAM basierte auf dem einzigartigen Zusammenwirken von Spitzenforscher/-innen der Naturwissenschaftlichen und Technischen Fakultäten der FAU. Für die Entwicklung neuer hierarchisch organisierter Materialien wurden natur- und ingenieurwissenschaftliche Kompetenzen in mehrskalige Ansätze von der Nanoskala bis zum makroskopischen Bauteil integriert. In einem kohärenten methodischen Ansatz wurden neue Längen- und Zeitskalen übergreifende Synthese-, Prozess-, Simulations- und Analysemethoden entwickelt und angewendet, die sich auch in der wissenschaftlichen Struktur des EAM widerspiegelten. Die drei Querschnittsbereiche Funktionale Partikelsysteme, Nanoanalyse und Mikroskopie sowie Multiskalenmodellierung und Simulation wurden als verstetigte Zentren der FAU langfristig aufgestellt. Die vier an anwendungstechnischen Zielfunktionen orientierten Forschungsbereiche nanoelektronische Materialien, photonische und optische Materialien, katalytische Materialien und Leichtbaumaterialien erarbeiteten innovative Prozessketten von der Herstellung kleinster Bausteine bis zu deren Integration in makroskopische Bauteile. Gemeinsame wissenschaftliche Herausforderungen aller Forschungsbereiche wurden in der zweiten Förderperiode als Schwerpunktthemen weiter vertieft. Der Cluster EAM hat die FAU strukturell nachhaltig beeinflusst. Es wurden 13 neue Professuren geschaffen, die Entfaltungsmöglichkeiten für den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs erheblich ausgebaut sowie neue Lehrveranstaltungen eingeführt. Die Infrastruktur der FAU im Bereich neuer Materialien und Prozesse wurde durch neue Gebäude mit einer Arbeitsfläche von mehr als 11.800 m2 erweitert und mit neuen wissenschaftlichen Instrumenten ausgestattet. Die interdisziplinären Forschungsaktivitäten auf höchstem Niveau sind durch 2517 Publikationen dokumentiert, 34 % davon wurden von zwei oder mehreren FAU Arbeitsgruppen gemeinsam publiziert. Aus EAM heraus wurden fünf neue Sonderforschungsbereiche, zwei Graduiertenkollegs, zwei Forschergruppen konzipiert, eine Core Unit entwickelt, sowie das neue Helmholtz Institut Erlangen-Nürnberg für Erneuerbare Energien (HI ERN) aufgebaut. Technologietransfer wurde in Kooperation mit Firmen, durch die Gründung von Transferzentren sowie den Aufbau von Demonstratoren umgesetzt. Die Nachhaltigkeit von EAM ist durch die verstetigten Strukturen und Infrastrukturen garantiert, die vom Land Bayern im Rahmen der 25 % Nachhaltigkeitsfinanzierung bis zum Jahr 2026 unterstützt werden. EAM wird daher auch in Zukunft als weltweit sichtbare Plattform die Forschung auf dem Gebiet der neuen Materialien und Prozesse in exzellenter Weise weiterentwickeln.
