200 kV Analytical Transmission Electron Microscope

Subject Area Chemical Solid State and Surface Research
Term Funded in 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 533126603

The aim of this proposal is to strengthen the field of electron microscopy for materials science, chemistry and physics at the Technical University of Munich and to equip both the recently established Electron Microscopy Core Facility of the TU Munich and the newly established Chair of "Electron Microscopy with a Research Focus on Energy Materials". The professorship is embedded in the DFG-funded e-conversion Cluster of Excellence (www.e-conversion.de) and was created in view of the important role that electron microscopy plays in many of the projects pursued by the members of e-conversion. The analytical TEM proposed here is ideally suited for a multi-user environment. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art cameras and detectors for the study of a wide range of materials. The instrument will also be equipped with accessories for in-situ and operando experiments. These are essential for the study of functional materials in their relevant working states and are key to the research pursued by the Chair, which includes studies of gas phase and temperature induced dynamics and, more generally, the behaviour and state of materials under non-equilibrium conditions.
