Investigation of the spin dynamics of polynuclear metal complexes by NMR

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term from 2002 to 2009
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5368848

Spinclusters denote polynuclear metal complexes in which magnetic ions are coupled via organic ligands to form magnetic structures with new and sometimes unexpected magnetic properties which cannot be realised by simple metal complexes or by normal magnetic solids. Among the various reasons which attract the interest on spinclusters there are the following topics: the investigation of the magnetism of biological relevant molecules, the search for molecular high-spin systems which might be important for data storage and even quantum computing, the study of magnetic interaction and relaxation of molecular systems which are in-between the extended magnetic solid and an individual magnetic complex ion. The main object of this project is the analysis of the various aspects of the spin dynamics of finite spin systems. This will be performed by measurements of the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and numerical simulations of the spin correlation functions.
