The goal of this research project is the study of different interaction regimes of a single quantum dot or a single quantum dot molecule with the confined light field of a microresonator. The first task will be the study of the quantum dot spontaneous emission in the weak coupling regime. Both enhancement and suppression as well as correlations in the emission will be addressed. We will also explore, whether these structures can be used to create entangled photon pairs through the decay of multiexcitons. Further, we will study whether the regime of strong coupling can be obtained with these structures. In particular the quantum correlations of the emitted light in this interaction regime will be investigated. To reach these goals different spectroscopic techniques (time-resolved photoluminescence and time-resolved correlation spectroscopy) will be applied. The results will give fundamentally new physical insights which will have impact in such different fields as the development of new light sources or quantum information processing.
