This research project aims at a thorough understanding of the quantum properties of the light emitted from semiconductors. We will concentrate on the experimental prove of light with subPoissonian statistics and in squeezed states. In a first step we will investigate the possibility of squeezed states in the specular reflection from excitons in a single quantum well using standard homodyne techniques. The setup of homodyne correlation spectroscopy as a combination of spectral interferometry and correlation measurements will allow us to investigate systems with low quantum efficiency, not possible up to now. We concentrate on measurements of the resonant emission from quantum well excitons and most challenging, from single quantum dots. Starting from these investigations, we want to realize specially designed semiconductor nanostructures which allow to enhance the non-classical effects systematically. In the future, these investigations will open up new possibilities for technical applications.
