The proposed project includes experimental and theoretical studies of molecular dynamics as a function of solvent temperature and pressure. Novel twodimensional (2D) vibrational echo experiments, optical analogues to twodimensional NMR-spectroscopy, will be performed on model systems with highly congested vibrational spectra. The 2D-spectra will be analyzed with respect to anharmonicity of the nuclear potential, molecular structure and dynamics. In phase II of the project we intend to apply these techniques also to biochemical systems as a tool for time resolved structure determination. 2D-vibrational echo spectroscopy has the potential to observe the dynamics of the secondary and tertiary structure of proteins and protein-protein interaction.
