Curves on abelian varieties

Fachliche Zuordnung Mathematik
Förderung Förderung von 2003 bis 2007
Projektkennung Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Projektnummer 5415581

Abelian varieties and their functions, the theta functions, occur in almost all parts of mathematics and physics. Common examples are Jacobian and Prym varieties which can be associated to smooth projective curves and étale double coverings of curves. One of the most important methods for investigating arbitrary abelian varieties consists in representing them as homomorphic images of Jacobian varieties. Any non-degenerate irreducible curve on an abelian variety yields such a representation. It is the aim of the project to find and investigate curves on abelian varieties and some related problems.
