In recent years, national populist parties and leaders have gained power in formal democracies around the world, in places as varied as Brazil, the United States, India, and Turkey. There are many compelling accounts of this, but they are largely confined to explanations focused on national political arenas. Departing from the "methodological nationalism" of populism studies, InDiPop will examine the outward-facing dimensions of these political movements. Our main focus is on the diaspora mobilizations of Indian national populism, a significant and indeed a globally representative case of diasporic as well as national populist politics.
