The coordinators plan to organize an international meeting in 2006 which will also represent the final meeting of the SPP 1088 at the end of the entire grant period 2000 - 2006. The aim of this meeting will be to summarize all previous work, to lively discuss all relevant and new findings and to identify future leads for basic and clinical research on AMD. It is planned to invite outstanding contributors to the field from abroad and to ask patient organizations working in the area for participation. Several smaller workshops will be promoted to expand networking and collaborations between groups. Workshops and meetings of the steering commitee of the central data bank for all clinical studies within the priority research programm will also be covered. Expenses for the realization of these meetings shall be covered by the coordinator fund.
