Immobilization of organocatalysts into core/shell nanofibers

Subject Area Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term from 2005 to 2010
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5450893

The project aims at developing a new approach towards the immobilization of organocatalysts based on nanofibers. Polymer nanofibers and core shell polymer nanofibers containing immobilized organocatalysts will be prepared by electrospinning and by the TUFT-process (tubes by fiber templates). The catalysts will be covalently bound either at the core nanofiber or at the shell. The diameters of the fibers carrying the catalysts will be modified as well as the thickness and chemical composition of the shell material to control the reactivity and transport properties. Hyperbranched polymers will be used as carriers for organocatalysts. The catalytically active hyperbranched polymers which cannot diffuse through PPX membranes will then be confined in PPX nanotubes. The tubes can thus be regarded as nanocontainers for organocatalyts.
