In the context of socio-environmental transformations, the history a landscape is a product of natural and cultural changes. Subproject S02 aims at identifying environmental preconditions and constraints for human activities within different landscapes and vice versa, at detecting variations of anthropogenic impact on the environment. In an overarching synthesis, we will focus on environmental responses and anthropogenic triggers in the context of socio-environmental transformations. Landscapes will be reconstructed and interpreted using the whole scope of the data gained from the previous CRC 1266 phases, which will allow the comparison of events, processes and structures of landscape developments during the studied transformation phases between 15,000 BCE and 1 BCE, as identified by the CRC 1266.
