Project Details
Clinical characteristics, treatment strategies and outcome in patients with heart failure-related cardiogenic shock.
Applicant
Dr. Jonas Sundermeyer
Subject Area
Cardiology, Angiology
Term
from 2024 to 2025
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 546376900
Driven by the existing heterogeneity in etiology, clinical phenotype, hemodynamic features, triggering factors, various comorbidities, and different risk modifiers in heart failure-related cardiogenic shock (HF-CS), the applicant hypothesizes that an insufficient understanding of the clinical characterization in HF-CS is the primary contributor to the scarcity of evidence in this field. Hence, the central focus of this research fellowship is to enhance the characterization of HF-CS patients, providing valuable insights for refining risk stratification, informing clinical decision- making, and guiding therapy to improve outcomes, using an appropriate data source. Furthermore, this could provide valuable insights for guiding the design of further urgently needed clinical trials in the field of HF-CS. The objectives of this project are as follows: Aim 1: To gain insight into registry-based cardiogenic shock research and to learn appropriate statistical methods for the analysis of large-scale datasets. Aim 2: To perform a clinical characterization for risk stratification and clinical decision- making of patients with heart failure-related cardiogenic shock using the Cardiogenic Shock Working Group Registry. Aim 3: To evaluate mechanical circulatory support in patients with heart failure-related cardiogenic shock using the Cardiogenic Shock Working Group Registry.
