SPP 1013:  Kurzzeitmetallurgie

Subject Area Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Term from 1996 to 2002
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5467241

The structure and the properties of metallic alloys can be changed by short time irradiation with high energy radiation sources and following self quenching significantly. At the beginning of the program there were obvious deficits in the quantitative evaluation of the microstructure and its correlation with the observed change of properties. It has been the goal of the program by using the existing competence in the field of high energy radiation sources and microstructure characterisation to reveal the relationships between the time dependent physical input variables, the formed microstructure and the material properties. The program has been focused on metallic alloys. Depending on the preparation route also materials have been investigated, which lead to non-metallic phases (e.g. metal oxides) in the result of a short pulse irradiation of the boundary layer of the metallic alloy.
