SPP 1018:  Analyse, Modellbildung und Berechnung mehrphasiger Strömungen

Subject Area Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Term from 1996 to 2001
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5467432

The research programme is devoted to steady and unsteady flows with gases being dispersed in a newtonian or non-newtonian liquid phase. The flow system may consist of miscible or immiscible components where solid particles may be dispersed. As a result of the numerous occurrence of such flow systems in technical and industrial processes the research is restricted to the commonly used equipment as there are: bubble columns without interior installations, loops reactors and aerated stirred vessels. The research should concentrate on the following topics:-- Development and testing of new instrumentation for time-dependent, three-dimensional measurements of both phases which can provide experimental results for an improved physical understanding and model development related to transport processes of mass, momentum and heat.-- Development and validation of analytical and numerical calculation methods which allow for a better design and optimisation of relevant technical systems.
