SFB 288:  Differentialgeometrie und Quantenphysik

Subject Area Mathematics
Term from 1992 to 2003
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5476285

In the last century, a lot of areas of the global analysis, differential geometry and topolgy experienced great stimulation by dealing with problems arising from mathematical physics. Vice versa, theoretical physics uses more and more ideas and methods taken from the current research of geometry. The collaborative research centre offers a framework for collaboration of mathematicians and physicians in this field. The main points are a) Application of quantum field theory in geometry and topology of lower dimensional manifolds.b) Geometry of hamiltonian systems, applications thereof in differential geometry. Semiclassical analysis of the corresponding quantum systems. c) Global analysis on manifolds and spectral theory of quantum mechanical systems. d) Discrete models in geometry and physics, visualisation.
