SFB 506:  Rekombinante Nukleinsäuren und Proteine zur Tumortherapie

Subject Area Medicine
Term from 1997 to 2003
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5481903

Novel therapy concepts for treating advanced tumors are essential, since adjuvant chemotherapy is inefficient. The goal of the collaborative research centre 506 is to investigate novel therapy options based on a deeper understanding of molecular medicine and to evaluate the efficacy of therapeutical concepts in preclinical and clinical studies. Therapy strategies are based on recombinant nucleic acids and proteins. Eight research projects aim at identifying and characterising target genes and proteins suitable for therapeutic intervention and at developing novel vector systems for the delivery of recombinant proteins into tumor cells. The goal of another eight research projects is to better understand the mechanisms of immune rejection of tumor cells. Experimental approaches are focussed on the induction and enhancement of cytotoxic reactions targetted against tumor cells.
