The synthesis project S01 investigates the ordering function of practices of comparing, examining comparative knowledge about humans, their self-concept in the world, and their relationships to their social and natural environment. This is done through substudies from antiquity to the present, as well as on Europe and global contact zones. We approach these knowledge pools from two perspectives: firstly, the level of knowledge pools generated through practices of comparing; secondly, the level of knowledge pools that facilitate, direct, and assess practices of comparing.
