Monasteries and order convents dominated, not only visually, the general appearance of the surrounding regions, especially the Upper Swabia and the Rhine valley. There emerged a remarkable cultural life especially with respect to the theatre. Music played there always a prominent role. The hitherto research dealt preferentially with orders of men, while women orders have been neglected. Therefore, the chief concern of the project comprises the question, to what extend similarities and differences exist between men and women orders as well as between different orders regarding music and scenic performances.
