Sliding-mode current control of parallel connected converters

Subject Area Electrical Energy Systems, Power Management, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives
Term since 2025
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 553033139

The parallel connection of power converters allows to extend the power range of a converter system. In turn, by choosing the switching instants, the properties of the system can be influenced. Well established are are control schemes that use dedicated current control and modulation algorithms. As an alternative, switching control schemes can be implemented that are usually derived in the context of sliding-mode control. This approach preserves a lot of the favourable properties of the schemes using a modulation and offers further advantages. However, these control schemes are far less investigated and understood. Thus, as an objective of the current project, open research questions are targeted and it is intended to improve the technical properties and usability of switching control schemes with the particular focus on parallel connected converters.
