The main objective of this sub-project is to optimise a fibre-reinforced plastic part with respect to both ge-ometry and fibre density and orientation distribution. This is achieved by creating a script-controlled FE simulation parametrised in both aspects and running it inside an automatic optimisation loop. The required material law incorporating a tensorial description of the fibre orientation is derived by homogenisation of a microstructural RVE (representative volume element) simulation. Incorporating constraints from manufac-tur-ing is a crucial step to obtain feasible results and also doubles as method to regularise the mathematical structure of the optimisation problem.
