The aim of this project is the conception and development of the Specialized Information Service for Molecular Chemistry (FID Chemie). It will function as an instrument for scientific support beyond already existing offers, as well as establish networking among the chemical community. The development and implementation of a web service portal provides a comprehensive and central entry point to access information relevant to research. Improving on the accessibility and distributed provision of information, clearly represented, nationwide, customized and focused offers of information will be made available and further relevant tools will be referenced. In order to face the challenges of increasing digitalization of the research process, informational services in the field of chemical research will be integrated and reusable tools in support of the research process will be established. In the first implementation stage, these services improve the accessibility and connection of knowledge within the chemical community. The range of services of FID Chemie is complementary to the services of the chemistry consortium NFDI4Chem. The range of services of the FID Chemie will be tailored to the requirements of the scientific community. The following key activities have been identified in preliminary surveys among the community: - The need for a centralized starting point for searches, providing access to scientific information independently of the affiliation to institutions - Scientists require constant support in the use of innovative methods of digital retrieval of information going beyond current offers of academic libraries - Specific requirements of access to databases, repositories and the like have been identified Five fields of action are planned in the FID Chemie to address the identified requirements. These will be focused on the communication with the scientific community, development of the web portal, improvement and display of Open Science, licensing of databases and research-specific software and the development of new methods of communicating information. The FID Chemie will mainly cover subjects that belong to molecular chemistry after the DFG classification. The project is subdivided into four phases, which are continuously accompanied by networking and interaction with the community. An integral part is the interaction with the advisory board as well as the cooperation with related specialized information services.
