We will theoretically investigate angular momentum transduction between long-wavelength collective mechanical and magnetic excitations in microscale heterostructures. In particular we will (i) Model (combining analytical with computational methods) heterostructures with coupled mechanical and magnetic degrees of freedom in order to understand and tailor the interactions and the dynamics, and (ii) Explore paths for detection and generation of phonons with angular momentum, by combining magnetoelastic theory with microwave driving and spectroscopy and, complementarily, via optical methods. This project is part of the Research Unit on Chiral Phonons for Spintronics (ChiPS).
