T cell tolerance towards foetal antigens is fundamental for successful pregnancy. The female reproductive tract harbours tissue-resident memory T cells (TRM cells). However, there is only minimal information on the function of these TRM cells during pregnancy. We hypothesise that suppression of uterine TRM cells is essential for foetal tolerance. Failure in their suppression will impair foetal development or lead to foetal rejection. We will employ a pre-clinical mouse model to investigate how activation of TRM cells is controlled during pregnancy and how environmental adversities and maternal immune activation can override this control.
