The aim of this project is to investigate unknown complexes of late transition metals with terminal nitrogen ligands by using matrix-isolation spectroscopy. The focus will be on the reaction products of fluoronitrogen compounds with the 3d metals cobalt and copper (FN3, N2F4) as well as the group 10 metals nickel (NF3, N2F4 and FN3), palladium and platinum (FN3, N2F4). Based on the vibrational and UV/Vis spectroscopic data, the nature of the chemical bonding in these compounds will be studied in more detail by state-of-the-art quantum-chemical methods and corresponding trends will be identified.
