Impact of maternal influenza-induced maternal immune activation/cytochrome P450 family 19 sub-family A polypeptide 1 (CYP19A1) - axis on offspring’s immunity (B03)

Maternal influenza induces the expression of various inflammatory cytokines that are part of maternal immune activation (MIA). Our preliminary data suggest that maternal influenza leads to dysregulation of CYP19A1 in the lung - the primary organ where virus replication occurs - and in the placenta, the primary gateway of foeto-maternal crosstalk. Therefore, we hypothesize that the MIA/CYP19A1 axis dysregulation during maternal influenza virus infection affects offspring´s immunity in later life.
