Despite the recent advancements in synthesis of various 2D materials (2DMs), one of the biggest challenges is to achieve uniform and wafer-scale single or highly crystalline layers of 2DMs for future technological applications. This project will address these challenges targeting controlled growth of crystalline 2DMs and their heterostructures (HSs) using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) and atomic layer deposition (ALD) as scalable and sustainable synthesis routes. To this end, the influence of organometallic precursors and co-reactants on nucleation, growth and crystallinity of the layers will be systematically investigated using different precursor combinations. By creating controlled 2DM films and HSs, a robust platform for studying the unique physical properties and structure-property relationships will be realized.
