Internal circadian desynchronization and its impact on immune regulation (A04)

Subject Area General Genetics and Functional Genome Biology
Immunology
Term since 2025
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 541063275

Chronobiologist Achim Kramer and molecular immunologist Simon Haas will investigate the interaction between internal circadian desynchronization and immune system dysfunction. To this end, they will first identify biomarkers for internal circadian synchronization in mice and humans. Single-cell technologies will be used to identify those genetic and protein biomarkers that can reliably predict the circadian phase of each cell type from a single sample. Findings will be validated in mice and humans with disrupted circadian systems as well as patients with immunological diseases. The results of this project will be extremely valuable to the consortium and to circadian medicine as a field, as simple circadian diagnostics are still in their infancy.
