Project Details
Investigations on the influence of wall-temperature and background disturbances on transition of a hypersonic double-cone flow at Mach 8
Subject Area

The combined experimental and numerical project investigates the influence of roughness and local wall-temperature variations on laminar-turbulent transition at a hypersonic cone-flare coonfiguration at Mach 8. After an adjustment of the measuring techniques to the planned experiments, the flow characteristics are measured in the H2K-tunnel with a focus on the noise spectrum. Additional to stationary simulations, unsteady Direct Numerical Simulations modelling the disturbance background will be conducted to ensure the comparability of the experimental and numerical results. Different roughness patches are investigated concerning their influence on transition. Additionally, local wall-temperature variations are induced to evaulate their effectiveness in influencing the instability development.
