Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 570637475

The University of Hohenheim is a profile university with a strong focus on interdisciplinarity and innovation. The close cooperation between the three faculties – Agricultural Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Economics and Social Sciences – creates a fruitful research environment for scientists and offers students a dynamic, diverse learning environment. This interdisciplinary networking enables innovative solutions to be developed for current societal challenges. Furthermore, the University of Hohenheim occupies a leading position in international rankings in the fields of agricultural research and food sciences, is excellently positioned in the natural sciences, and has a unique profile in economics, social sciences, and communication sciences. The University of Hohenheim is already committed to open access publishing in various ways. The proposed project aims to further expand and professionalise these activities. The focus is on the sustainable development and strengthening of an open access culture. At the same time, university members will be made more aware of the importance of open science. The central goal of the project is the sustainable development of an open access culture at the University of Hohenheim and to increase the visibility of the university's research achievements. To this end, university members will be sensitised for the importance of open science. Three specific goals will be pursued during the two-year project period: Firstly, a central information budget will be set up to provide an overview of all financial resources used for publications and to ensure that resources are managed efficiently and in line with needs. Secondly, the standardisation and widespread implementation of information on affiliation, funding acknowledgements and author and organisation identifiers is planned to ensure better traceability and comparability of publications. Thirdly, open access publication channels, in particular gold and diamond open access, are to be strengthened, the associated processes sustainably established, and researchers specifically informed and motivated to use them. A work programme with three work packages has been developed for implementation: (1) university-wide aggregation of publication costs, (2) standardisation and implementation of relevant metadata, and (3) promotion and communication of Gold and Diamond Open Access. The measures will be implemented in cooperation with the relevant departments, such as Research, Finance and University Communications. The funding requested will enable the further expansion and professionalisation of university services and offerings in the area of Open Access.
