Project Details
Operando - Hard-X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer (HAXPES) - a customized lab-based system
Subject Area
Condensed Matter Physics
Term
Funded in 2025
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 572374462
The HAXPES method not only allows a depth-sensitive investigation of fundamental chemical and electronic properties, but also offers a unique feature in terms of application: the analysis of real electronic components in nanoelectronics under ‘operando’ conditions. In combination with a UHV-MBE preparation chamber and an interface for vacuum suitcases, a new type of in situ cluster tool is created that makes a broad spectrum of scientific questions accessible: from the analytical principles of hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to the investigation of state-of-the-art functional and quantum materials and the analysis of technologically relevant nanoelectronic components. Future research projects are dedicated, for example, to the investigation of ferroelectric and magnetic material systems, in particular their interface and defect physics, integration into functional heterostructures, the analysis of defect and ion migration and the further development of operando measurements for nanostructured components under electrical voltage.
