The subproject takes on conceptual cross-sectional tasks within the CRC. It will (i) develop an explanatory model based on spatial theory to account for the empirically observed refiguration processes. Additionally, it seeks to (ii) advance a design and planning model capable of transferring research results into urban planning practices. Both models will benefit from each other, with the explanatory model providing the theoretical foundations for the design model, and the latter contributing to theory building. In this way, the full potential of the CRC’s interdisciplinary approach is used to promote practice-oriented social theory formation.
