The emergence of global value chains (GVCs) is one of the most significant developments in international trade in the 21st century (Baldwin, 2012) and have transformed the structure of international trade flows (Antràs and Chor, 2022). While subject to thorough academic research over the last years, many aspects of GVCs are not well understood yet. First, it is still unclear in theoretical models to what extent the expansion of GVCs has affected trade policy. Second, it is crucial to gain more knowledge on the impact of changes in trade policy on the reorganization of GVCs, as it has become a core challenge in the supply chain management of international firms. Third, it is important to consider the role of GVCs and trade in intermediate goods in better understanding the factors that drive changes in wage inequality. As part of the newly founded Research Unit IDoL, this project will address these topics in three main sub-projects. The projects allow for extensions in various dimensions and will benefit from synergies with other projects within the unit, such as "Superstar Firms", "Innovation and Technology", and "Firm Organization". The project will greatly benefit from the data sources collected within the "Infrastructure" project.
