Project Details
Promoting neuroblast maturation to improve recovery post-stroke (C03)
Subject Area
Molecular and Cellular Neurology and Neuropathology
Term
since 2026
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 548585053
This project investigates the mechanisms that prevent stroke-induced neuroblasts (iNBs) from maturing into functional neurons. iNBs accumulate specifically in the perivascular niche after stroke but fail to contribute to regeneration. By comparing stroke responses in mice and regeneration-competent zebrafish, the project characterizes the cellular composition and signaling dynamics of the iNB niche. It aims to identify pro-regenerative pathways active in zebrafish and test their ability to enhance neuronal replacement in the mammalian brain.
